Origin:
Poodles of all sizes originated from Germany then standardized in France.
The Standard Poodle is one of the oldest pure bred dogs. They were fully developed around the 16th century. In the early days Poodles were highly sought after for their outstanding hunting ability. They would retrieve birds from the swamps and lakes all day long. To this day you'll find that Poodles still love the water. In the past Poodles have been know as "Water Dogs" "Pudel" and "Caniche".
The popular Toy Poodles and Miniature Poodles came to prominence hundreds of years after the standard was developed.

*Hair* (dense curly coat that continues to grow) * regular grooming as well as at regular home brushing* to ensure no knotting of coat
Regular Grooming Frequency:
Regular grooming about every 5-6 weeks.
Regular nail trimming about every 5 weeks
Home Grooming Tools Required: metal comb and soft slicker
The German Shepherd was originally bred to herd flocks in harsh climates, and his medium-length double coat fits the job perfectly, protecting the dog from rain and snow, and resistant to picking up burrs and dirt.
The coat types of the German Shepherd are as varied as his color; some German Shepherds are long-haired. However, the ideal German Shepherd has a double coat of medium length. The outer coat is dense with straight hair that lies close to the body, and is sometimes wavy and wiry.
Regular Grooming Frequency:
Weekly brushing and seasonal grooming needed.
Trim nails on a regular basis to prevent painful splintering. If you can hear the nails clicking on the floor, they're too long.
Home Grooming Tools Required:
Metal comb and soft slicker.
Poodle puppies seem to love the physical and mental stimulation that is derived from obedience training. Poodle training provides the perfect outlet in which to channel their boundless energy in a positive and fulfilling manor (the alternative is destructive behaviors).
Life indoors is recommended for the Poodle, and access to a small yard would suffice for the Toy or Miniature, though the Standard may need more breathing room. It tends to be inactive indoors, so it needs to be taken out for its exercise needs.
