A Rottweiler puppy makes an outstanding human companion dog. This amazing and powerful breed originated from Germany. They are considered to be part of the Herding/Working Group.

At their best a Rottweiler puppy grows to be a calm, level headed, stable and self confident companion. They are courageous, highly intelligent, affectionate and ever willing training partners.

The German Shepherd was originally bred to herd flocks in harsh climates, and his medium-length double coat fits the job perfectly, protecting the dog from rain and snow, and resistant to picking up burrs and dirt.

The coat types of the German Shepherd are as varied as his color; some German Shepherds are long-haired. However, the ideal German Shepherd has a double coat of medium length. The outer coat is dense with straight hair that lies close to the body, and is sometimes wavy and wiry.

Regular Grooming Frequency:
Weekly brushing and seasonal grooming needed.

Trim nails on a regular basis to prevent painful splintering. If you can hear the nails clicking on the floor, they're too long.

Home Grooming Tools Required:
Metal comb and soft slicker.

Rottweilers have a short double coat that's straight and coarse. The outer coat is medium in length, shorter on the head, ears, and legs; the undercoat is found mainly on the neck and thighs. The amount of undercoat your Rottie has depends on the climate in which he lives.

Regular Grooming Frequency:
Brush your Rottie weekly with a good bristle or curry brush to remove dead hair and distribute skin oils.

He'll shed twice a year, and you'll probably want to brush during that time to keep the loose hair under control. Bathe him as needed.

Curry Brush.

Rottweilers are a working breed. They require plenty of physical and mental stimulation to keep them content. Some nice long on leash walks and obedience training sessions are always appreciated by Rotties. This will help to prevent many destructive behaviors such as digging, chewing, whining and excessive barking.

An overweight Rottweiler is an unhealthy Rottweiler - or will be anyway. Obese Rotties are far more susceptible to a wide range of health problems than a fit and healthy Rottie. Be sure to provide plenty of exercise and proper nutrition to your dog.
